Zanzibar

This destination

Situated about 20 miles off the coast of Tanzania in the Indian Ocean, Zanzibar is an idyllic retreat perfect for rest and relaxation but also with plentiful opportunities to explore. Just 6 degrees south of the equator it enjoys a pleasant climate and is surrounded by coral reefs perfect for diving and snorkelling. Zanzibar is renowned for its beaches, the best of which are on the east and north coasts, which are protected by coral reefs and offer fine powder white sand.

The island has a colourful history due to its location on the trade routes than ran from Arabia, along the East coast of Africa. The capital Stonetown is a maze of historic properties, with distinct middle eastern influences. The island is also famous for its spices and a visit to the spice plantations is a popular excursion.
