Surely the highlight of any trip to Peru, today we visit the majestic Incan citadel of Machu Picchu. Inaccessible by road we take the train journey by vistadome train, offering spectacular views of the Andean scenery, to this incredible site. Located on a high mountain ridge, surrounded by cloud forest there is still conjecture about the origin of the site but it is thought that it was a retreat for Incan nobility. Never discovered by the conquistadors it became overgrown by jungle until rediscovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911. World Heritage listed by UNESCO it offers some of the finest examples of Incan masonry and agricultural terracing and our guided tour allows you to learn about its history and context. There is free time to explore before returning to the station for our onward journey to Cuzco. Standard - 3 nights: Eco Inn, Cuzco - 3
