Surrounded by lush forested mountains and overlooking a tranquil Caribbean bay, Cienfuegos is one of Cuba's hidden treasures. This charming city has a long history rooted in the mighty sugarcane empires that once filled the Caribbean trade routes. The architectural influences are from the era when wealthy French and Spanish colonists built plantations, churches and mansions. Known as 'The Pearl of the South', the city has a relaxed atmosphere; with shady parks and squares offering the perfect place to sit back, enjoy a coffee and watch daily life go by.

We also visit the picturesque town of Trinidad only an hour's drive from Cienfuegos. Once visited by smugglers and pirates, the city now lures visitors who spend their days exploring this beautifully preserved colonial town. Cobblestone streets lead to shady courtyards oozing with Latin beats; markets brim with locally made handicrafts, and crumbling baroque churches and stately colonial museums provide an insight into the town's colourful history.

We visit the town of Santa Clara - site of the decisive battle of the Cuban revolution. As well as enjoying a city tour we include a stop at the Che Memorial to Che Guevara. Finally, we continue on to the white sand beach resort of Jibacoa located on Cuba's north coast.
