Our Highlights:
  • The possibility of seeing orang utans in their natural habitat at Semengok
  • Enjoying the spectacular location and scenery of the Batang Ai Longhouse
  • A boat trip on the Santubong River in search of Irrawaddy dolphins

Orang utans and dolphins; hornbills and rainforest; rivers and lake; city and beach. All in Sarawak, on the island of Borneo. On this holiday, your time is spent in the rainforest and the city, with the option to extend your stay at the beach. And the accommodation is rather special: on the shores of a mountain lake, surrounded by lush rainforest, lies the Batang Ai Longhouse. A longhouse like no other: its design is based on the traditional style, yet here you will enjoy fully air-conditioned, comfortable rooms and excellent facilities including swimming pool, fitness room and tennis. A 4 night stay offers time to enjoy the peace and tranquility of this beautiful area as well as take guided walks or hikes and river trips in search of hornbills, macaques and the gibbons and orang utans which are very occasionally seen in this area.

Kuching, Sarawak's capital, is probably our favourite Far East city, with a charm and atmosphere of times past: it has parks and gardens and an attractive waterfront promenade along the Sarawak River. We have included 3 excellent excursions during your stay in Sarawak. Firstly, to visit Semengok where rehabilitated orang utans roam free in the rainforest. The centre has a successful breeding programme. The second is river trip on the Santubong River to search for the Irrawaddy dolphin, often seen swimming and diving around the small fishing boats. These dolphins are found in rivers, estuary and shallow coastal waters. And also, an introduction to Kuching, which means 'cat' in Malay so we include a visit to the slightly kitsch Cat Museum, a drive around the heritage buildings of the days of the White Rajahs, take a short boat ride for a river borne view of the city, explore the narrow streets of spice merchants and fabric traders and visit the famous Sarawak Museum.
