Land of the Orang Utan
10 night Borneo holiday including Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary
from £995
Our Highlights:
- Seeing orang utans in their natural environment
- The excellent facilities at the 1st class Pacific Sutera
- The fascinating Mengkabong water village
Located in the South China Sea, the island of Borneo evokes images of rainforests, rare and exotic wildlife and its most famous inhabitant, the orang utan. Our holiday focuses on the state of Sabah, formerly British North Borneo and one of the few places where the orang utan can be seen in its natural environment.
Your holiday is based at the 1st class Pacific Sutera Hotel, located on the beach just outside of the state capital, Kota Kinabalu.
We include a visit to the Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary (a short flight from Kota Kinabalu) near the town of Sandakan - offering you the chance to see one of man's closest relatives. The sanctuary was established in 1964 to return orphaned apes into the wild and is the largest of its kind in the world. It helps once captive orang utans learn to climb and fend for themselves.
Our final included excursion is to the fascinating Mengkabong water village, built on stilts over the water. The tribe that live here are the descendants of pirates who arrived in the 19th century. Our tour also includes the open market at Tuaran, the Chinese Temple and a pottery factory.
