Pandas & the Orient
9 night tour of Hong Kong & southern China
from £1,395
Our Highlights:
- See pandas at Chengdu
- Spectacular Guilin set amidst beautiful scenery
- Vibrant Hong Kong
With their striking black and white features, taste for bamboo and alleged mating ineptitude the giant panda is one of the symbols of China. Our journey through southern China takes us into the scenic mountains and bamboo groves of Sichuan Province, home to the majority of China’s pandas.
You will visit the Giant Panda Research and Breeding base in Chengdu, renowned for its successes in panda breeding, where there is the chance to explore the habitat of the panda. You will have the opportunity to observe these captivating creatures as they eat, play and interact at the preserve, probably the closest one can come to seeing pandas in the wild.
Travelling by rail, road, air and boat across southern China you will have an insight into this enigmatic and rapidly developing country: commencing in the vibrant former colony of Hong Kong; travelling overland by rail into mainland China; picturesque Guilin set amidst beautiful limestone scenery; cruising past verdant paddy fields along the Li River to Yangshuo; and finally to Sichuan province, not only home to the giant panda but also noted for its fiery cuisine, which you will have the chance to sample when you visit the charming capital of Chengdu.
