Everything in the Maldives is an island. The capital, the resorts, even the airport! When you leave the plane in other parts of the world, you normally board a coach, but here it is just a short walk to the landing stage where your boat will be waiting to take you across the atolls to the idyllic island of Velidhu (transfer time approx 1 hour 45 minutes by fast boat). You may be lucky enough to see graceful, acrobatic dolphins in the waters or flying fish skimming across the surface. Or, of course, you may decide to travel by seaplane (see right for details), an experience we thoroughly recommend.

Located in the North Ari Atoll, Velidhu is a beautiful little island of 19 acres, surrounded by fine sandy beaches and clear waters ideal for swimming, snorkelling and windsurfing. The style of life here is relaxed and informal: it's very much 'no news, no shoes'.
